Classes

The Apothecary Garden is a lively learning community.  Most classes are held in the kitchen, behind the shop, or in our gardens.

Please be sure to sign-up for classes in advance as space is limited. Note that we will cancel classes if there is insufficient sign-up five days in advance.  If you have questions about a specific class, feel free to contact us at (215) 247 2110 or apothecarygarden@gmail.com.

We offer classes in a variety of formats.  Choose a class that feeds your passion and your favorite way of learning!

  • Community Herbalist Training Program

    This course of study is designed for those who want to be able to take their herb work out into the community.  Classes in this section do have homework!  If you are looking for a less intensive experience, check out our one day classes or the Introduction to Herbalism series.

     

  • Introduction to Herbalism

    Looking to expand your herbal knowledge so that you feel comfortable supporting yourself and your family through minor ailments?  These classes are a bit more comprehensive than our short classes, but do not have the out of class work required for the Community Herbalist Training.

  • The Kitchen Apothecary

    These are our "how to classes."  Look here if you want to do hands on herbal or skin care preparations.  Come dressed to get messy!

     

  • Herb of the Month

    Prefer depth over breadth?
    Join us as we delve deep, studying one herb a month.  
    Join us for a class or the series.

     

  • Systematically Speaking

    Learn how to support your body systematically through the changing seasons!  Each season we will look at a system that is particularly effected and discuss herbs that will offer support.

     

  • Art and Soul

    Herbalism is an art as well as a science.  These clases connect you to the earth, to the soul of the plants, and to our progression through the seasons.  Look here if you are interested in poetry, drawing, shamanic journey work, and ritual.

     

  • The Gardens and Woods

    Garden planning, garden talks, and (of course) wood walks!

     

     

 

There are lots of herbal classes out there.  What makes our classes different? 

Our herbalist, Maia Toll, has a deep knowledge of the green world and she understands how to share her knowledge in a way that other people understand! When Maia started her herbal studies fifteen years ago, she was teaching full time at one of the top primary schools in the country. Teaching has always been a passion so Maia has continued to hone her teaching skills as she developed her herbal knowledge.  She has studied with some of the most interesting herbal minds in the United States as well as apprenticing with an herbalist in Ireland. In addition, Maia has taught for the State University of New York and the University of Pennsylvania.  Maia understands that everyone learns differently.  Her classes are dynamic and energetic, engaging the learner in each of us!
